Kerry Skipper

John More

Born in Wairoa, Kerry Skipper is another self taught artist of Ngai Tahu decent, of the Ngati Irakehu sub-tribe. Kerrys art and craft style has been heavily influenced by the Poranui Beach environment. As a serious and dedicated Mother to her beautiful children, Kerry has only been able to realise her full artistic potential over the last two years or so and has definitely made up for lost time, producing a prolific amount of work recently. Kerry is attuned to thinking outside of the square, and prides herself on originality and the love of creating something different. She says, "With my woodworking, I love the idea of being able to give an old post or a bit of wood a 'second life', or the chance to become something more than it was intended to be." Kerrys repertoire includes unique woodworking, sculpting in hessian, stone painting, glass leadlighting, objects trouves.
